Somaliland Drought Appeal

The world has watched in horror recently as the humanitarian disaster continues to ravage thousands of people in Somaliland.

It is estimated that 250 children died every day from malnourishment, while the death rate reached between 5 and 7 per 10,000 per day in parts of Somaliland, forcing the UN to declare famine in parts of Somaliland: the first such declaration in three decades.

Somaliland Drought Appeal Committee in Cardiff, Wales is issuing an urgent appeal to the World including the Diaspora Communities, NGO’s and the international relief organisations to assist in the humanitarian crisis resulting from the impacts of drought in the Horn of Africa. Rainfall over the past two consecutive seasons have been below-normal level, as a result,  people and their livestock are facing a catastrophic crisis. The drought has lowered agricultural production, decimated livestock, and deteriorated food security and nutrition conditions in many parts of Somaliland.

The regions that have been heavily impacted by the drought are Hawd, Maroodijeex, Saaxil, Gabiley, Salal and Awdal. Hundreds of thousands of people and their livestock are both starving and desperate in need for food and water. Therefore, they need an urgent help before it is too late. Somaliland Drought Appeal Committee in Cardiff, Wales is offering a helping hand to people suffering from the effects of severe drought. Our current focus is organising deliveries of some basic food, medical supplies and water to struggling people in the severely affected regions.

We are working closely with the Drought Committee in Somaliland and a team of dedicated volunteers who are on the ground and ready to help, but need additional support and financial contribution to get Emergency supplies to those in desperate need. Somaliland Drought Appeal Committee in Cardiff, Wales is made up of the Diaspora Community who have strong links to Somaliland and in Wales the Somaliland Community have had a presence for over 100yrs many have family members directly affected by the catastrophic conditions in Somaliland.
