**UPDATE - Phase I complete... we have a bus!  Onto phase II - interior conversion renos, mechanical work!  Check out our updates for more info and thank you so much for your support thus far**

Greetings friends, family & strangers,

Let's introduce ourselves first, we are comprised of two humans... Nat & Riley and one brindle dog named June.   We are utilizing GoFundMe to help raise part of the funds needed to purchase and convert a used school bus into a tiny home / studio.

The Soaring Scavengers Skoolie will allow us to tour British Columbia and Alberta this spring / summer sharing our music, art, craft and community projects to a broader audience.  But that's not all!

Below you'll find all the details about us, our skoolie project and our creative projects and our 2017 tour.
Plus various ways you can help us make this happen!

Our Story... the short version
Six years ago we met on a wintery January day in downtown Toronto and we've been together ever since.  After a short stint of less than two years in Ontario it was time for us to head west and we haven't looked back.
Late September 2012 we packed up the car, with $100 in our pocket and a tank of gas we started our journey to Vancouver Island.  That leap of faith brought us closer to our dreams, the fresh salty air changed our lives forever, which brings us to today.
Over the last 4+ years on Vancouver Island we have been working on our music, art and craft, building friendships and creating community focused events pertaining to art and music.

It is now time for us to take a new leap of faith to persue our dreams onto the next level.

The Who, What, Why & How of it all!

Who
Soaring Scavengers is the multi-medium creative umbrella which includes our own musical project Owl & Vulture, handmade craft, Soaring Scavengers Photography by Nat and coming soon Soaring Scavengers Recording by Riley.
June is their four legged assistant, she plays a major role keeping up with the overall morale of the operation, outdoor adventure time, bone collecting and customer service.

Aside from our own creative ventures, we are extremely
passionate about helping others share their creative projects with the world.

Our grand vision is to collectively create an art farm on Vancouver Island that would provide a community space for art, music, craft, farming, herbal medicine and more.

What
We have found a 28ft 1980  GMC school bus that has been partially converted many moons ago.  We are not working on updating the interior to suit our needs as a tiny home / studio on wheels and getting it up to par to pass a BC safety inspection.
Once converted and liveable we'll take her out onto the open road for a summer tour.  When we return to the island we will continue to reside in our tiny home and continue to persue our creative visions.

What we'll be doing on the road

Touring as Owl & Vulture
Booking shows, busking, creating media such as new recordings and videos, writing and recording material for a new album.

Soaring Scavengers Craft
Continuing to craft leather goods while traveling and selling them online, at markets, road side pop ups and other events we may become a part of.

Soaring Scavengers Photography
Offering photography sessions wherever we travel, working on multiple photo book projects and building a western canada photography collection for prints.

Spreadin' the love - promoting other artists

Capturing the Artist Project - Music / Art
Both of these projects will pair photography with an online blog to promote the work of younger independant Canadian musicians and artists across western Canada. The Capturing the Artist Project was started on Vancouver Island in 2016.  More details coming soon.

Soaring Scavengers Road Sessions
Creating audio and video recordings of musicians we meet along our travels in the bus and sharing them through our website, social media and youtube.  This project will help promote the amazing musicians we meet along the way and share with you all of these fantastic sounds for your ears.

Art Farm - Promotion / Fundraising
Last but not least we'll be shairng our vision for the art farm to a broader audience, networking and fundraising along the way.  We are still working out these details.

How:
March - Purchased 28 ft 1980 gmc school bus running on propane
Thank you for your support thus far, the $1215 we raised helped us to purchase this bus, start conversion work and transport it back to Vancouver Island from Strathmore AB.

April - conversion, structual and mechanical work to pass inspection and suit our needs as a tiny home / studio on wheels.

How we'll spend donations:
- purchase of used school bus
- tools and materials including lumber, water barrels, electicity needs, plumbing, engine parts
- solar energy system (panels, batteries and inverter)
- costs to register, inspect and insure with motorhome status
- wood stove purchase / installation for winter
- wages to pay tradespeople or mechanics to assist
- upgrades to the interior; paint, furnishings, textiles etc.

We estimate the project will approximently cost between $5000 -$10,000 to fully complete.  We are utilizing this gofundme to help fund it partially along side other avenues of making the funds needed including selling handcrafted items, playing shows, booking photoshoots and working.

Why
We are passionate about living sustainably and creatively in a collective community, so downsizing our living expenses and personal belongs to live in a handcrafted skoolie will not only allow us to utilize our time on both personal and collective creative projects but also align with our vision to live more minimaly, mobile and eco-friendly.
