Skye's the Limit
Donation protected
*** Skye is going to take part in a Junior Para Triathlon - a 50m swim, 1000m cycle and 800m run. She is training hard - swimming lessons and cycling lessons every week and taking part in the 'Daily Mile' at school. This is to raise money for her strength and conditoning training.
Donations can be made through this site (which charges a fee), via PayPal or by bank transfer (contact me for details for these 2 options). Thank you all!***
Skye was born at 27 weeks weighing less than a bag of sugar (1lb 15oz or 880g). She stayed in special care for 9 weeks and then came home. As the months went on it became obvious all was not well. At the age of 2 years and 2 months Skye was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.
4 years ago, at the age of 4, we raised £40,000 for Skye to undergo spinal surgery called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy. During this operation, the surgeon cut nerves where they join the spinal cord to relieve the spasticity in the affected leg muscles. However, the other muscles in the legs had been masked by the spastic muscles, so Skye had to relearn how to walk and strengthen those weaker muscles. She has done fantastically, learning to walk again, developing her stamina and learning to hop, skip, run and swim.
The money we raised back then paid for the operation itself and has paid for 5 years of physio and strength training. However, the fund is running a little low and so we are hoping to boost the amount of money we have for equipment and physio to continue the fantastic progress she has made over the past two years. It costs £300 for each intensive strength training weekend at SDR Rehab UK. Skye tends to attend 6 of these per year.
We would be so grateful if you felt able to donate a little to help Skye go from strength to strength.
