Shower Safe Base Foot fund
JS Design Industries "Shower Safe Base Foot"
Frank Jones and Michael Simonetti are the founders of JS Design Industries and inventors of the 'Shower Safe Base Foot'. The foot is an easily installed and removed prosthetic device that allows lower limb amputees to shower safely on two legs again. Frank is a lower limb amputee who came up with this design. Michael is a 23 year naval veteran and currently a San Diego State University student whose major is vocational rehabilitation counseling, with a certification in prothetic design.
In conjunction with SDSU's Zahn Innovation Platform Launchpad (ZIP Launchpad), we are beginning our entrepreneurial adventure. The ZIP is a lean-startup business program at SDSU that helps students with starting their own businesses, promoting ideas, and networking in order to get their ideas to market.
Our company's mission statement is “Increased safety, efficiency, mobility, reliability, and operational simplicity in prosthetic design over our competitors.”
We are at the stage in the program where we need capital for patenting the device, prototyping, FDA registration, device testing, CA Dept. of Public Health registration, Liability insurance, vendor licensing, and initial manufacturing costs. When tallied, the total amount for our start-up is $25,000 to cover the above mentioned costs. We need to raise funding in order to make a number of test feet , and between 5 and 6 to donate to lower-limb amputees in the community, followed by beginning sales and distribution in the first months of 2017. Our timeline is advancing quickly, and because of this we need to begin raising funds immediately.
It was during the course of my studies, which led to a detailed investigation into Franks disability and how it affects his activites of daily living, when we discovered the fact that the single worst part of his day, every day, was bathing safely. In the past he would balance on one leg in the shower which is doing damage to his remaing good hip, or resort to a shower chair which did not eliminate the dangerous shower-to-floor. It is this unsafe transiton it turns out, is the worst part of many lower-limb amputees days. We solved this problem by inventing the Shower Safe Base Foot.
Interviews with other lower limb amputees were positive in the need for such a device, and our goal is to be able to make this invention available to all lower-limb amputees, not just nationally but worldwide as well.
To be able to help other persons with their disabilities will see the fulfillment of our teams goal of ending the dangerous transition in and out of the shower, and eliminating the slip hazards involved with balancing on one leg to bathe.
Thank you for considering donating to our project. The potential to help the population of persons with disabilites in this country is truly rewarding and with your help, we can see it to fruition.
