"You have breast cancer". I will never forget my friends beautiful face when it went from optimistic to shock, disbelief and despair after those 4 words were conveyed.
Some of you already know but for those of you who do not, earlier this month Shona was diagnosed with HER2 Triple+ Stage 2 Breast Cancer. As you can imagine this was devastating news. For a lady who has such "Joie de Vivre" and always been my "rock" she was suddenly filled with sorrow.
Shona is a devoted Wife to Dan, loving mother of 2 young boys and a passionately dedicated Home Daycare Provider. She has worked diligently all these years building a successful Daycare and now struggles with the unknown of possibly not being able to care for the children currently in her care as well as being overwhelmed with concern of not being able to contribute financially to caring for her family.
Please embrace this information with care. Shona has a lot more to give in life and your collective positive energy will be a powerful weapon in her fight against cancer.
Shona's lumpectomy surgery is scheduled on March 28 2019 and for 10 days following she will be recovering at home. After the surgery it will take approx 3 weeks to get the results back from the pathology at which point she will see an Oncologist at Credit Valley Hospital. The Dr has said that she will more than likely require radiation treatments for approx 4-6 weeks (everyday) and chemo.
The uncertainty of how long Shona will not be able to work and help to provide for her family is at the forefront of her mind. At a time where she should be focusing on herself and her health, in typical Shona fashion she is worried about everyone else. I am hoping you will help me by trying to alleviate that stress.
Friends, family, neighbors, community members, and folks I haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet, let us stand side by side to help Shona fight breast cancer with the strength of kindness, optimism, and generosity. Together we'll demonstrate the power of a community uniting with a
