Hello and welcome to the University of Sheffield’s PGDE Go Fund Me page!

We are a group of postgraduates training to become teachers of science, geography, maths and history. Although training for different subjects, we all share a common empathy that pushed many of us towards teaching in the first place - we strive to support those who have less than us and are motivated to improve the education of those most in need. This is why the 13 of us jumped at the chance to travel to Bangalore, India to volunteer in an orphanage and a school for two weeks.

We will be travelling over Easter, between the 31st of March and the 14th of April, where we will work with children in the Parikrma School, which educates orphaned and abandoned children from poor households, and with girls at the Baale Mane Gopalapura, an orphanage for disadvantaged girls. The opportunity to travel to India represents an astonishing opportunity for us to gain new cultural perspectives whilst being able to provide children with improved resources such as stationary and fans, and two weeks they will never forget. We'll be running a series of fun, interactive and engaging activities in small groups with children from both the orphanage and school over the two weeks with the hope of having a tonne of fun and leaving a lasting legacy on the kids.

All of the money raised towards this page will go towards buying resources for the children in these schools. Travel costs, accommodation and, most importantly, all on-route MacDonald’s will be paid by us so that we can maximise the money that goes into improving the orphanage and school in Bangalore.

Giving to this page is the most accessible way of donating to our cause, however, should you be local to Sheffield or fancy getting some cake for your donation feel free to pop down the School of Education (388 Glossop Rd, Sheffield S10 2JA, room 6.04) on the 26th January from 10am where we will be selling homemade cakes. We will also, no doubt, be out in a Asda near you over the coming weeks packing bags and collecting donations for the children in the school and orphanage.

We speak from our hearts when we say that we are truly grateful for all and any donations for this cause. Your help and support of our goal to improve the quality of the schools means the world to each and everyone of us.

We will be running a blog whilst in India so that you can keep track of all the fun, travels, activities. We will post a link to this blog on this page, which we will all share on social media, nearer to our departure. For information on the schools we will be working in please follow the attached links.

Thank you so much for reading and for any donations you make,
