Help House Senior Citizens

DC recently cut tons of funding for emergency rental assistance, homeless shelters, aid for the disabled and unemployed. According to a report prepared by the University of Kentucky Center for Poverty Research, between 2007 and 2010, seniors experiencing hunger due to economic hardship rose by 34%. 

To help ease the financial strain faced by many senior citizens in DC, LifeSongs Solutions will begin providing affordable (that means lower rents) to senior citizens. The goal is to create safe and comfortable apartment communities throughout the area. 

Nicole got the idea for this project from her mom. Nicole's mom struggled for years as a single parent earning just a bit over minimum wage. Now that she's close to retirement, mom found out that her monthly benefits will be less than $700 per month if she starts at age 62. Have you seen any safe and comfortable apartments in DC that she could afford with that income? Some would say, just retire later right? Well, Mom currently works 7 days per week just to pay the bills. She doesn't have health care, and still needs financial help from time to time. See the problem? Mom is tired. She shouldn't have to work so hard FOREVER. So Nicole wondered: "How many other moms and grandparents are struggling with the same problem?"

We need a total of $6000 to go towards the down payment of our first four-unit apartment building. Our budget is a maximum purchase price of $200,000. Nicole has already saved a significant portion of a down payment from personal funds, but needs a little help to meet the mark. Our goal date for closing in February 2013 and we would like to have our first set of tenants by April 1, 2013. Any funds raised will go towards the down payment, even if we don't reach our goal.
