Open Source Tech Panelist at NN18!
I’m raising $1,000 to cover the cost of airline ticket and hotel to participate in an amazing opportunity. It's a huge honor to be invited to represent the Progressive Coders Network of volunteers alongside Shaka Lee, Rapi Castillo and Sky Duveen at a Netroots Nation 2018 panel discussion hosted by Shaka, called Open Source Tech #FTW on August 2-4, 2018 in New Orleans, LA.
The opportunity to talk about the power of open source tech to transform movements is important to the ProgCode community, but this panel has the potential to be a real game changer for grassroots activists participating in the broader progressive reform movement.
ProgCode is a network of 1.5k tech and tech support volunteers and 501(c)(4) non-profit whose mission is to remove or reduce the influence of big money in politics by supporting the creation of open source tech to empower the grassroots. ProgCode's operations are funded by recurring small dollar contributions of $88 per month via Patreon & Crowdpac . Most of these donations cover monthly fees and subscriptions for digital assets necessary to run day-to-day community operations. The ProgCode community believes so much in the necessity of outreach in this critical moment in U.S. politics that it generously voted to pay my Speaker's Fee from those funds.
Of course, ProgCode does not yet have the kind of money necessary to pay for evangelism and outreach opportunities. I wish that I had the personal savings set aside to cover the costs of the hotel and flight, but I do not.
UPDATE: Round-trip Airfare (purchased today thanks to your generosity!): $566.10 after tax
Hotel, 3 nights: $449 including tax
On behalf of myself and the ProgCode community, I am so grateful for any assistance you may be able to provide to cover hotel and air fare for this event. Thank you!
In solidarity,
Pamela John
