WOOF has an ambitious training schedule, including working with Master Trainers and traveling to train with other teams across the west. We have also grown! New dog handlers and some great new dogs mean a lot of additional costs to get these guys, and our current handlers, in the field and saving lives.

WOOF (Wilderness Finders Search Dog Teams) is 501(c)3 non-profit organization. WOOF trains, certifies, and deploys certified search, rescue and recovery canine teams at no charge to the victim or his/her families. WOOF teams save people's lives and bring those who perish home to their family. All of the donations that come to the unit go directly towards our goals - training, equipment, deployments, outreach and education.

WOOF has taken on some new handlers in training, learning the ropes and training their dogs to be top notch in trailing and air-scent. With the snowfall (finally!) here in the Sierra Nevada mountains, we are also doing avalanche training. One of our certified teams searched and helped recover a missing person, who was sadly caught in an avalanche earlier this winter. We are always looking ahead when it comes to being prepared, and once the snow melts we will be doing water training, one of WOOF's specialties.

We hope to have three new teams certified by the end of the summer, and a veteran team certified with a new K9 partner in water search too.

WOOF responded to the mud slide in Oso Washington, a four-day deployment. It was tough work on handlers and dogs alike. We appreciate everyone's support and well-wishing to help us keep spirits high. Our hearts go out to those who lost someone and to those who lost their lives, we hope you are at peace...
