Haiti is the poorest country in the World. With 60% of Haiti's population living on less that $1 per day, thousands of people suffer from acute malnutrition, anemia, and are stunted or short for their age and 80 out of 1000 children will never see their first birthday. Most of the population depend on streams, rivers, and lakes for water regardless of its cleanliness so they are susceptible to disease and infection.
Only 50% of children living in Haiti are able to go to school, while only 30% of them will make it to the 5th grade . As a result, half of Haitians are uneducated and without a proper education, the people will never break free of the cycle of poverty.
Giving Hearts with Love Foundation is dedicated to providing programs and services to families to improve their quality of life and we have began our focus in the community of Sapaterre. We intend to provide the families of this community with much needed food, clean water, clothing, shoes, school supplies, and hygiene products. Our long term goal is to provide them with proper housing and a school that will be equipped to give a quality education.
They are the future of Haiti and they need our help.
This is the school that the children attend. The children get up early in the morning to prepare to meet at a 'covering' that they call school. A school that has no separation of classes and is taught by a director that has never been trained to teach, but tries his best.
The only water well in the community but it has been broken for a while.
The only bathroom in the community. There are no toilets or running water.
