St. Mary's needs your help!!!

Since the 2008 stock market crash, the Episcopal Church of St. Mary-in-the-Highlands has had no choice but to use our modest endowment principal to pay our many bills (oil, lawn & grounds maintenance, leaking roofs, crumbling walls, etc.) - despite many cuts to our budget. Unfortunately, despite seven years of extraordinary fundraising efforts, the endowment is nearly gone.

With a Christ-like orientation, St. Mary's practices radical hospitality across all divides of race, politics, sexual orientation, faith backgrounds, and life situations. This means that there is a much wider community we serve outside of our Sunday worshippers.

However, St. Mary's is more than just a church, a group of historic buildings, a great lawn --- it is the Heart of the Cold Spring community. It is central to the Spirit of all that makes Cold Spring great. We are steeped in history: Kemble, Butterfield, Haldane, and many other founders of Cold Spring rang the bells to bring the community together; now we must ring them again to preserve the character and environment of our community for residents and tourist alike.

If St. Mary-in-the Highlands closed, the 3 acres of green space in the center of the village along with the historic buildings would be sold. Private development would change the entire character of our quaint Main Street and there would be no more great lawn for sledding, sunning, playing, or learning to ride a bike. No more Girl Scouts' community herb garden, or clothing drop. No more hosting Haldane School dances and events' or AA/Al Anon meetings; or the Grief Support group. No more Culinary Institute classes, or yoga, or Zumba. No more community Fellowship Suppers or special events. No more Shakespeare Festival events or Farmer's Market in town. Our beloved Reform Synagogue would have to leave. The great Veterans' monument would have to be relocated. It would be the end of the Garden of Remembrance for deceased veterans.

Please be as generous as you possibly can be before the iconic red doors of St. Mary-in-the Highlands close for good.
