Save New Leash on Life Dog Rescue!

Since 1997, New Leash On Life, ("NLOL") has been a non-profit public benefit organization dedicated to saving dogs from kill shelters in the Los Angeles area.

Late last year, the City of Santa Clarita unexpectedly raised a building code compliance issue with our landlords Bobby & Kelly Dorafshar / Aikani Properties. The end result was that NLOL’s long-standing kennel structure used to board and care for dogs was demolished.  Unfortunately, most of the funds that we use to rescue dogs from kill shelters comes directly from our boarding services. Despite our best efforts and cutbacks, the reduction in our funding has taken a hefty toll and has put NLOL in danger of extinction.

We are at serious risk of closing our doors forever. Our dogs will be left without homes, and even more dogs will risk death in kill shelters all around Southern California. In addition to our beloved canines, this will affect our dedicated staff, volunteers, the community and loyal clients who are all like extended family. Our resident overnight caretaker of twelve years, Diane Kinder, and her personal rescued dog, Loba (a senior undergoing chemo), will even be displaced from their home.
Please consider a donation to help us build new kennels to serve our community and continue our two-decade long rescue mission. Once the kennels have been built, we can restore our boarding program, and with that income, we can save the lives of dogs who just need a new leash on life.

This is what we do:
Each year, hundreds of thousands of dogs are killed in Los Angeles. These animals deserve the chance to be great companions. They deserve to be placed into loving homes or trained to become therapy or assistance dogs. Since its inception, NLOL has been successful in rescuing and placing over 5,000 animals and relocating over 200 "Ruffugees’" from hurricanes  Katrina and Rita. With this vision in mind, our tiny staff of eight and our dedicated volunteers run a lean and effective operation to direct the majority of our funds to our canine welfare programs.

Operation Rescue, our training program, enables us to rehabilitate and re-home dogs which might otherwise not have a chance at a permanent home. Our “Lend a Paw” program provides trained and certified assistance and therapy dogs to enhance the lives of individuals experiencing physical, mental, emotional, or other life challenges. Our Mobile Pet Adoption Program expands community awareness of animal rescue, of NLOL, and the dogs we have available for adoption. Our Pet Education Trainers program teaches children about animal awareness, care and safety, and includes a literacy assistance program where children build their reading skills and confidence by reading to our dogs. Our Senior Sanctuary Program provides permanent housing, care, and necessary medical monitoring for elderly canines who are highly unlikely to be placed in an adoptive home, like our 14 years young queen

We love working with and rescuing canine companions. We love all dogs. We want to save more and more lives, but we cannot survive on love alone.

We need your help.

Donations will be allocated to build a kennel structure either at the present facility (if our landlords Bobby & Kelly Dorafshar / Aikani Properties approve) or an alternate, and to partially subsidize our operating expenses in the interim. In the event that we are unsuccessful in raising sufficient funding and are forced to close, know your contributions will be donated to a public benefit nonprofit dog rescue organization with a common mission as required by law.

Also, please open your hearts and homes and adopt one or more of our wonderful adoptable dogs http://www.nlol.org/dogs

All donations are tax deductible and go directly to New Leash on Life Animal Rescue Foundation, a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization. Tax ID #: 95-4662890.
