Our daughter, granddaughter, big sister, cousin, friend, student, classmate, Katie, Kate, Katelyn Paige Leshuk (18), was diagnosed with Classic Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, CANCER of the lymphatic system, which is part of her immune system. She is stage 2 (Stages range from 1, less sever, to 4 most sever).
As of May 5, she is getting to her 3rd round of treatment, with 12 total, estimated months were 6, depending on other factors. She has lost much of her hair, is fatigued, sore, tired, and has other body issues going on.
Here's a bit about our Kate and her journey!
Katelyn graduated high school a few month early, in 2018. She moved to Texas to pursue a dream of eventually working for herself. She began work with her grandparents, learning their business, with the idea of eventually taking it over after they retire.
Soon after she moved, she developed symptoms that were not going away. Katelyn’s neck is swollen, painful bumps under skin, chest pain, and has fatigue, fevers, night sweats, as well as emotional ups and downs.
She had scans, blood tests, and a biopsy done. She went in for a bone marrow biopsy, more scans, and a port-a-cath implanted in her chest. It can be used to give chemotherapy or medicine into her vein, or to take blood.
Treatments that may come are Chemotherapy, radiation, immune, and targeted therapy, bone marrow samples/transplant, follow up care, and possible fertility treatments.
Side effects of this disease and treatment are hair loss, weight loss/gain, nausea, fatigue, heart damage, other cancers, increase risk of infections, and infertility.
We would like to support her without financial worry. Any monies raised through here or other fundraisers will mostly go towards her getting back on her feet after she beats this cancer!! Most of her treatment is covered through insurance. She will not be working as much, if at all, during her treatments. And may use some of the funds to help with other expenses.
Katelyn has also experienced EXTREME TRAUMA in her teenage years. Setting normal teen issues aside, she had unimaginable things happen (a story she will tell when ready). This created extreme stress, anxiety, loss, despair, sadness, frustration, fear, guilt, shame, what ifs, anger, nearly unbearable heartache, loss of sleep and so SO much more. She will be healing for the rest of her LIFE. It is my hopes to lessen her burdens.
If you are unable to donate financially, we ask that you say a special PRAYER for our Katelyn, that her body finds the strength to beat this and THRIVE. As she heads into a very tough few months and possibly years, she has her sights set on a skydiving adventure, traveling to new places, and further down the road enjoying a family of her own.
