Playwright Holly Charles, M.A. and The Rutherford B.H. Yates Museum humbly request donations to fund
pre-production costs for the one-time event and stage play In All Thy Getting: The Forgotten Story of Freedmen’s Town.
Please Note:
While we are currently pursuing large donations and grants from large corporations to fund the $15,000+ we need to fund the entire play, the startup funds (your personal donations) of $5,000 will help to fund pre-production costs.
Our Goals
In All Thy Getting makes two things abundantly clear: 1) the arts matter, and 2) the people matter. Playwright Holly Charles, M.A. and The Rutherford B.H. Yates Museum have merged these two ideals into a stage play which exposes the community to the art of theater, while informing Houstonians about a rich, yet forgotten history. Our intentions are to take advantage of the diverse talents of this city and, at the same time, use them to build cohesion and pride in a national treasure.
What Your Donation Can Do
Ultimately, In All Thy Getting will be used as a catalyst for Houstonians to volunteer, donate to and continue to patron RBHY and 4th Ward/Freedmen’s Town. For many attendees, this may be their first true exposure to the history of Freedmen’s Town and the issue of endangerment which this Nationally Registered Historic District faces. While the play is presently scheduled as a one-time event, the lasting effect should be such that RBHY may continue on for years to come as a symbol of pride and center for the advocacy of historic preservation and archaeology.
