Super Hero Calliope Team

Patrick Ditty was a star student in the online business degree program at PSU.  He and his family, Kaomi (his wife) and six darling children were the light of our program.  There's Anthon (14), Broedi (10) , Willem and Garren (5), Calliope (4), and Geordelena (1).  They attended every family picnic and appeared in google hangouts during the course of the program. We love them all so much.

On April 24th, Patrick and Kaomi took Calliope to the pediatrician to ask about swelling in her leg. They learned she has leukemia.  Calliope was immediately transported by ambulance to the Cancer Unit of The Primary Children’s Hospital at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

According to her Uncle Sketch, Calliope dreams of being a superhero, when she's not overwhelmed by the task of keeping her older brothers in line. Here she is with her batgirl shirt:

The prognosis is serious but hopeful. She's living in the hospital for about four months as she completes chemotherapy. Her parents are sharing the duty of her care while balancing that with caring for their five other  wonderful children and maintaining their livelihood.

Right out of the gate, the medical costs for which they are personally responsible are $6,900 and we know more expenses are on the way including additional medical costs,  childcare and possible loss of income from work.  And, as many of you know, our PSU students also deal with student debt making crises like these particularly difficult.

We will provide Calliope's health updates as she responds to treatment. This funding model makes it possible for people to donate in whatever amounts are possible which add up to such huge impact for a family at one of the most difficult times in their lives.  This money goes directly to the Ditty family through this site.

Thanks for considering contributing to reduce as much pain and negative impact on Calliope and her family as she journeys through chemo, bone marrow tests, lumbar spinal fluid draws and all that fun stuff.  According to her uncle, our mission, should we choose to accept it, is to  give her every chance to become the superhero who will one day save the galaxy.
