Harvey: TX Range Community Support

We have all watched with profound sadness the staggering devastation that Hurricane Harvey has wreaked in the cities of Houston, Galveston, Corpus Christi, and surrounding areas across the Gulf Coast. As we write this, losses along coastal rangelands are climbing as Tropical Storm Harvey continues its path of destruction. The effects have been immediate, enormous, and will continue to have long-lasting repercussions. Although those within the agricultural community are incredibly strong and resilient, the impacts of this storm will undoubtedly have a lasting effect on their livelihood.
The Society for Range Management has organized this fundraiser in an effort to aid those of the rangeland and livestock community that have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Many of our members are livestock producers, and those that aren’t, interact with producers on a daily basis. Perhaps you have seen the images and videos of neighbors pitching in to move cattle out of coastal rangeland areas that are currently under several feet of water. There have been many other heartening examples of people helping one another that serve as good reminders of who we truly are as a rangeland/agricultural community. That said, these people need help, and sooner, rather than later.
We have no doubt that the folks who are currently suffering will bounce back. The small silver lining of watching this unprecedented event unfold has been to also watch the remarkable examples of individual heroism, and witnessing from afar both urban and rural communities coming to the aid of their neighbors in peril. Now is the time for us to step up.
The SRM will be working with members from our Texas section and the Coastal Prairie Grazing Lands Coalition to make sure your donation will be distributed directly to those in the rangeland and livestock community who have suffered losses. The Parent Society will match the first $1000 contributed to this initiative. Please take this opportunity to donate. No donation is too small, every contribution counts, and every little bit we can do will be greatly appreciated.
