Invest in a Young Scholar's Dream

My name is Royale Privitte, I'm almost 17 years old and I'm a rising senior at Lick-Wilmerding High School in San Francisco. This summer I got accepted into a Stanford Summer College Academy program. Space is extremely limited. Only 100 students worldwide will be accepted into Summer College Academy 2014. I was super excited, and we had filled out a financial aid application so I assumed we got it when I was accepted. However, just today we realized we didn't get any financial aid and the program costs $7600. So, my dad and I aren't giving up and we want to crowd fund and raise the money.

I'd really love to go to this program because it would be an amazing educational experience. I would be taking a class called "Perspectives on Mock Law and Trial" and I would be learning about the judiciary system and attorneys in a hands-on classroom. The first portion of the program takes place online for about 3 hours for 4 days of the week. The second portion of the program I would be staying on Stanford campus for 3 weeks and that would just be amazing. I really don't want to miss out on this opportunity.

As I mentioned, the class is one on law. I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to take this class because I'm indeed intrigued by the prospect of becoming a lawyer or attorney. This experience would be so groundbreaking for me it's incredible. It could truly put me on the right path to becoming a successful lawyer. This would be fulfilling one of my biggest dreams.

For all those who believe and invest in me, I'll most definitely not let you down. Learning has been my passion since the day I was born.

If this campaign exceeds my goal and I somehow raise $76,000, with all of the excess money I will set up a non-profit organization aimed at educational opportunities for other children to have been as fortunate as I've been.

Help me out and you'll be making a young scholar's dream come true!

Here's some background information provided by their site:

Stanford Summer College Academy is an academically selective program that provides access to undergraduate-level education at one of America’s most respected universities. Summer College Academy is an innovative online-residential hybrid college experience that provides academic, social, and intellectual opportunities not found in a high school classroom.

Program participants apply and are admitted to one of six challenging college-level courses, and earn Stanford University Continuing Studies credit*. Summer College Academy students interact with peers from across the U.S. and around the world. The program’s diverse academic and extracurricular offerings provide for personal growth, enjoyment, and the opportunity to develop memorable friendships. Summer College Academy creates an inclusive community of learning where students are challenged to reach their fullest potential—while at Stanford and beyond.

Admitted Summer College Academy students will have the opportunity to take one intensive undergraduate-level course, 3–4 weeks of which will be in Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies’ signature online synchronous seminar environment, followed by 3 weeks of coursework in residence on Stanford's beautiful campus. In both the online and residential environments, students not only participate in their course-related work, but also have access to a wide range of Summer College Academy student activities, free academic support, and other co-curricular programming.

During the online portion of the course, students will begin to build the important relationships that they will bring to campus through house meetings and other student life, academic support, and educational programming. When in residence, students will live together in Stanford undergraduate housing and be mentored by undergraduate students. They will also have the opportunity to take advantage of an even wider array of co-curricular activities, including trips, cultural programming, expanded tutor hours, attend lectures by the many world-renown speakers that grace Stanford’s campus during the summer. They will also have the opportunity to explore the unique recreational activities available on campus and in the culturally rich San Francisco Bay Area.
