Dear Robinson Community,

We are proud of Robinson School’s 115-year commitment to service, as evidenced by our campaign "Reconstructing Communities," launched after Irma to help those affected on our island and in the rest of the Caribbean by that terrible storm. Now, we face a much different reality.

Hurricane Maria has hit our home. Our Island. Our School. Our Families. Our Students. Our Faculty. Our Staff. Our community – near and far. No one was spared from the devastation of this unprecedented natural disaster.

From the uprooting of old-growth trees and forests across the island to the flooding that left so many without a place to lay their heads at night, Hurricane Maria affected every single person in Puerto Rico. Over 85% of the people on the island have have no power, more than two-thirds have no running water, communications is limited -- on a good day. Needs vary from basic needs that are now small luxuries – electricity, water, ice – to the most basic, shelter.

In this spirit, Robinson School introduces “Robinson in Action – A Heart of Service,” an expanded hurricane relief campaign that gives our entire community – students, parents, alumni and friends – an opportunity to support Puerto Rico in this time of need.

If you were waiting for the right time to give, this is it. This is an opportunity to help your school and the people who make up the community around it...this is Puerto Rico. ALL the money goes to actual rescue and recovery of the damage Maria has caused to Puerto Rico.

Robinson believes in direct action. This fund was started because several  Robinson alums wanted a way to support the people and communities affected by Hurricane Maria without having half (or more) of our donations going toward the administrative costs of an organization mobilizing for rescue efforts. We didn’t want anyone printing T-shirts, playing ads on TV, or having telethons. We just wanted our money to go to the people who need it – quickly, effectively, and without much fuss. That was the seed for the “Robinson Home and Community Fund,” which was initiated immediately after Hurricane Maria hit.

That seed grew into a garden – “Robinson in Action – A Heart of Service.” We are proud and humbled to report that we have raised over $7000 to date. Our school chaplain, Rosangélica Acevedo, has traveled to the interior of the island on missions. Our students will be joining her and have already begun other relief initiatives. Robinson School is now functioning as a collection and distribution center for emergency relief supplies. Students are also organizing a water purification campaign for Puerto Rico.

IMPORTANT:   All administration is being done on a volunteer basis. All proceeds go directly to folks in crisis. NONE of the money goes to the school or its repairs. (That’s a different story.)

THIS is only for DIRECT rescue and relief efforts.

Thank you to all who gave and to all those who will give. Your continuing generosity is humbling and reaffirming.
