Road to Miss Boston

When I realized I only had another year to fulfill my inner 10-year-old-Michelle's dream of being Miss Massachusetts, I knew I didn't want to pass up the opportunity. Miss Boston is Boston's largest preliminary for Miss America and each year the young lady crowned as Miss Boston earns a spot to compete for the title of Miss Massachusetts.

The Miss Boston Scholarship Organization is a prestigious program dedicated to providing young women with scholarships, public speaking opportunities, and support for Miss America's official platform: Children's Miracle Network.

I've decided to enter this pageant for everything the 4 points of the Miss America crown represent:

Service: First and foremost, I'd be honored to represent the city of Boston. I'm also entering the pageant to support the Children's Miracle Network and my own personal platform, breast cancer awareness and fundraising, through Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer.
Style: A title holder is a role model to others and a spokesperson for the program. They are viewed by many and expected to exemplify poise and presence. To me, style is about being comfortable in your own skin! I'd like to show my style in dance, attitude, conversation and then of course, appearance.
Scholarship: If there is one thing graduating from college has taught me, it is that I want to go back to school. The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations gave more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance.
Success: Participating in pageants within the Miss America Organization not only helps you pay for college and prepare for a career, it provides an opportunity to gain additional life experience, work on issues of importance to society, enhance your personal and professional skills, and develop your performance-related talents. What better experience for a young lady who is still trying to figure out where her true passions lie?!

I chose the Miss Boston preliminary to Miss Massachusetts because I'll be honest, I've never loved a city more in my life and doubt I ever will! I love everything about the city of Boston right down to the Boston Baked Beans they sell on the corner of State Street that only me and the tourists buy. I love its colleges, its accent, its MBTA (on the days I'm sweating like a sardine between Kenmore & BU West and on the days I get an express train <3), its crazy driving (I know when to yield at a rotary and will teach those who don't =]), its sport teams (even though I may be biased to the Patriots), and most importantly its spirit, strength, sense of community & sense of pride. #bostonstrong

On the road to Miss Boston, costs emerge at ever twist and turn. I've based my GoFundMe ask on the following:

$100 Miss Boston Application
$150 Ad in the Miss Boston program book
$100 Children's Miracle Network donation
$100 headshots
$500 evening gown
$200 swimsuit
$200 talent outfit
$200 interview outfit Total = $1,550.00 + (GoFundMe takes .5%) $77.50 = $1,627.50

Each outfit corresponds with a portion of the competition:
"Interview "“ 25% - Suggested wardrobe: a simple dress or pantsuit that would be appropriate for a job interview.
Talent "“ 35% - Suggested wardrobe: An outfit that represents your talent and that you feel comfortable performing in.
Evening Wear "“ 20% - Suggested wardrobe: An evening gown that makes you feel beautiful and that you can comfortably walk in.
Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit "“ 15% - Suggested wardrobe: The swimsuit may be a one or two-piece swimsuit of any color and cut you prefer. Please, nothing too revealing!
On-Stage Question "“ 5% - You will wear your a simple outfit that will fit our theme, it may be your interview outfit, etc. You will be given ample opportunity to prepare."

This "wish list" is only to show you where the money is going. Any donation from $1 is helpful and extremely appreciated!

From previous experience there is no doubt this is a low-estimation of the actual, average cost it takes to compete in a pageant. On the road to any pageant, at every corner there are tights to buy, accessories to match, shoes to find, butt glue to use etc. etc... As a starving post-grad, my goal is to find the most frugal way to compete. That being said, if I am able to rent or borrow any of the necessary outfits the remaining money from my GoFundMe campaign will go to the Children's Miracle Network.

If you have any questions on where your donation is going, other ways to sponsor and support, ways to get involved with the Miss Boston pageant, information at the Young Survival Coalition or tips for me (!!) please don't hesitate to contact me.

I hope you'll find my road to Miss Boston a worthy enough journey to support!

Cheers & Best Wishes,

Last thing: There is a People's Choice award to earn scholarship money at the pageant - Every vote = $1 so $20 = 20 votes etc. Last year's winner won a $1,600 scholarship which is awesome so I'd appreciate any and all votes - this is another link you can share on social media!

Help me support the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals on my road to Miss Boston!

As you already know, I'm very involved with the Miss America Organization but you probably didn't know that one of the exciting opportunities this organization offers is the chance to raise funds for local children's hospitals through Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. The money I raise will help save children's lives, and a portion will also go to support the Miss America Scholarship Fund.

Children's Miracle Network Hospitals makes sure that donated funds stay local which means that your donation helps kids and families right here in our community. I invite you to join me in touching the lives of sick and injured children today, by clicking the link below then the "Donate Now" button to make a secure donation. You can also see the impact of your donation by clicking here to view some of the incredible miracle stories from kids we've helped. These are just a few stories out of millions of kids treated at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals each year.

Thank you so much for your support and for helping me make miracles happen!
