Rebuilding my old school in Senegal

Donation protected
Rebuilding my old school was a success. I'm now back in NYC working on documenting the work I've done. I'm no longer accepting donations at this time.  Thank you all for your generosity and your help to make all of this possible. Stay tuned on a short documentary about the work that was done.

I am Ousmane Dieng and this is where my story began...
in a school called Lycée de Ndioum, in the small village of Ndioum, 8 hours from the capital Dakar, Senegal. This is the school where I learned to be the person I am today. I learned 4 languages at this school starting at 8 years of age.

Today I am a student and varsity soccer player at Connecticut College, class of 2018 and I am doing very well. I am majoring in Computer Science and minoring in linguistics. Throughout highschool I played soccer for PSG, a nationally ranked team from the Manhattan Soccer Club where I developed many great friendships. I am thankful for all of the wonder people I have met along the way and I feel deep gratitude toward the school I attended as a child.

Over my college break (January 17') I traveled to Senegal for the first time in 9 years to play on the U20 Senegal team and had the opportunity to visit my childhood home in Ndioum. While I was there I visited the school where I studied as a child. I was so deeply moved by what I saw that I decided to make it my mission to go back this summer and help rebuild my school. This will be my version of a summer internship, giving back to the community that got me to where I now am.

The population of Ndioum is less than 20,000 and approximately 2,000 kids attend the school with only 15 classrooms. The ceilings and walls are badly in need of repair and paint and the 3 bathrooms are clogged and not working.

The money I raise will be used to repair desks, prep and paint classrooms and to make new bathrooms; with doors and toilet seats instead of holes in the ground.

The following are the estimated costs to complete this project:

1 DESK: $15 for wood and screws to add a wooden seat and desk top to 1 metal frame. 300 desks in total. $4,500 to repair all 300 desks.

1 CLASSROOM: $150 to paint 1 classroom. $2,250 to paint all 15 classrooms.

1 PAINTER to paint and supervise  the volunteer painters for $1000

3 NEW TOILETS $1500+

SUPPLIES $3000+

TRANSPORTATION to get me there and back, including food and lodging: $2,500

SCHOOL SUPPLIES to be purchased with any extra money raised

I can not do this without the financial support of friends, teammates, fellow students, soccer players and their families and friends.

Please consider one of the following contributions
or any other contribution amount:

$450: 1 classroom painted & 20 chairs
$150: 1 classroom painted
$300: 20 chairs
$150: 10 chairs
$75: 5 chairs
$15: 1 chair
