Ralph Trolian's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
As many of you have heard, my son-in-law, Ralph Trolian has recently been diagnosed with Hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer).  His tumor is roughly about 9 cm and because of size and proximity to the portal vein of his liver, they are unable to operate at this time.  The current treatment plan is for Ralph to undergo chemoembolization at Johns Hopkins University’s Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center  in Baltimore, MD.  Depending on how the tumor reacts, he may undergo the chemoembolization treatment anywhere from 1 to 7 times.  Each time will require him to stay overnight in the hospital for observation. He will also have to undergo radiation treatment, 5 days a week for 3 weeks. The hope is that they can shrink the tumor enough so they can eventually surgically remove the cancerous portion of the liver. It will be a long hard road for Ralph. Because of his diagnosis, Ralph has had to shut down his small business.  Thank God, he had health insurance through Michelle’s (Shelly’s) work.  If this diagnosis had come 6 months ago, it would have been a different story.  However, since Michelle has only been working at her current job for six months, she has not gotten to the point where she earns leave… if she doesn’t work, she doesn’t get paid. With Ralph’s current treatment plan and the hospital being 3 hours away from home, there will be many missed days of work. Despite having health insurance, Ralph and Shelly will be faced with staggering medical bills because insurance only covers 80% of the bill.  We do not know how much this will cost in the long term but one website states that liver cancer treatment can cost $50,000-$100,000 (Liver Cancer Treatment Costs ).  Paying for 20% of that is mind boggling.  They will also have to pay for a place to stay during the 3 weeks of radiation treatment.  Even if they are approved to stay at the patient and family, reduced-cost housing at Johns Hopkins, that is $64/night or almost $1000 which does not include food and other expenses while away from home... And more missed days of work with no income. I would love to help Ralph and Shelly so that, WHEN Ralph is cured of this horrible disease, they will not have to worry about how they will pay off their medical bills. I want them to have the happy life they deserve.  Any help you can give is appreciated.  The chemoembolization treatments start Apr 2nd so we need to jump on this now. Any donation, large or small, is greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your continued love and prayers.
