Help Hex Recover His Items

Donation protected
For more than 10 years, Hex of Radio One Chicago  88.7FM (WLUW) has given his heart and soul to the Chicago music community through his volunteer-run radio broadcast which showcases Chicago artists, musicians and more. Unfortunately, part of his radio broadcasting equipment - including laptop, microphone and camera - were stolen from his vehicle last weekend. Thankfully, no one was in the vehicle when this occurred and insurance has covered part of the costs. Unfortunately, there are still items that need to be recuperated in order for his radio broadcasting efforts to continue.

With that in mind, the team at Radio One Chicago decided we had to do something about this so we are raising funds to help Hex recover some of the stolen items and continue his efforts in supporting Chicago’s growing music community. We don’t know anyone more deserving, especially someone working in the not-for-profit music world.

Radio One Chicago has over 150 artists featured in a year. If each artist/group that came in just this past year each donated $5, Hex’s items would be covered. Every little bit helps so whether it’s $5 or $50, let’s show our appreciation for all the hard work Hex has shown local artists for more than 10 years.

Note: Hex is a very private and humble person and was hesitant about asking for help. Please show your support at any level.

A statement from Hex:

“I was trying to stay retired from music. I was completely happy being unhappy. It was me, my guitar and my computer. I would play to some dumb beat and try to write songs knowing they’d never be heard, knowing that they were terrible.

I was in CANYON, and MATADORA. Sure, you probably have no idea who those bands are, but let me tell you, they were fucking amazing. And we wrote songs that were tight, sonically moving soundscapes.

I gave up on the dream of being in a band, but music reared its ugly head and I reached out to Cain who played in CANYON and MATADORA with me.  After a jam session we decided to get drinks to celebrate our first practice. When we left and I found out my car was broken into.

I lost three microphones, my backpack with my Macbook Pro and my camera, along with other minor things. Luckily enough, they didn’t take my guitar.

Louise (my guitar) could have left me, but she didn’t. She knew. I chose her for the special evening. We’ve written all our songs together. I don’t hang out with her as much as used to, but Saturday night she was there for me.

I’m a pretty passive person. It’s hard to ask for help, but I’m okay with this because it benefits the music scene in Chicago and Radio One. Thanks for reading this and thinking of me.”
