Feeding the Homeless: #RvaEverybodyEats

804 Street Media: #RVAEverybodyeats start!

Hello my name is Alex Burton and I'm a youth advocate/ community leader/ activist located in Richmond, Virginia. The #RVAeverybodyeats campaign was created because I want to help the homeless of Richmond. The mission is to get my city and the world, actively involved in supplying the homeless of Richmond, Virginia with basic living necessities, non perishable food, and continuing to keep the world aware of this ongoing crisis. I'm launching the #RVAeverybodyeats and calling on others to start a GoFundMe or fundraiser in their neighborhoods to get more food and supplies for homeless. Hopefully the GoFundMe community will answer the call.

Take it from the top

Welcome to Richmond home of over 200,000 residents and a city full of history. There is not apart of the city that doesn’t have historical significances.  “The James River” aka “The Heart of Virginia” with over hundred years of history and still going strong, Arthur Ashe Center home of famous tennis great Arthur Ashe 3 time Grand Slam titles, and Barack Obama Elementary named after our 44th President Barack Obama.

My cause to concern is that being homeless isn’t something you ask for and for many its something they face daily. " Around 6,000 men, women, and children across Virginia are homeless a night." Approximately 40 to 50 percent of food waste(including 51 to 63 percent of seafood waste 42) happens at level of the consumer. In the US, an average person wastes 238 pounds of food per year (about 25 percent of the food they buy), costing them $1,800 per year. Something we are all guilty of.

What worsens the matter?

(Jan. 11, 2018) The number of people experiencing homelessness has increased for the first time in seven years, according to the Annual Homeless Assessment Report delivered to Congress in December of 2017.

An estimated 553,742 people were experiencing homelessness on a single night in 2017, according to the report, the first time since 2010 in which there was an increase from the year prior.

With conservative estimates of 25% of the homeless population having serious mental illness, this means that more than 138,435 individuals with serious mental illness were experiencing homelessness on a single night in 2017.

The Reality.

The sign ends with support your local charities and leaves a number showing help is available.  Sure help is available, but the ratio of "homelessness to help is staggering" and you can quote me on it. When was the last time you heard of too much help to a cause increasing in severity. Not everyone is going into 2019 ”living their best life” but for the homeless of Richmond, VA we could make a change for next year and years to come. "No matter what, the real solution to making them disappear is to help them support themselves by finding jobs, homes, services and get them re-acclimated to society." Let's start now with action supporting, helping find jobs, and getting a costumed to life. #RVAeverybodyeats!
