Repetitive Strain In jury (RSI) is a leading occupational injury in the industrialized world, yet many people have never heard of it. RSI is prevalent – mainly because of the repetitive and excessive use of computers, smart phones and other technology. These injuries, which occur to the wrists, fingers, arms, hands and neck, can be extremely disabling. Carpal tunnel syndrome is one form of RSI.
At the moment, there is no public awareness campaign to warn people about RSI so they can prevent it, or to educate them about what to do when they are injured. Many physicians are not well versed in RSI, so injured people go from doctor to doctor seeking help before they find answers.
Deborah Quilter has written two books on RSI and maintains a website on this topic as a public service http://www.rsihelp.com/, but there needs to be more effort to prevent this disease and help people who have it cope with its serious consequences.
Ms. Quilter, who has lived with this injury for over 20 years herself, is raising money to fund a weekly radio show so that people can get accurate information about RSI. Ms. Quilter has approached commercial radio stations about doing this show, but no one supported it. The need for reliable information on this topic is so great that she decided to do it herself rather than wait any longer. She hopes that people will support this much-needed venture by donations, much like listener-supported public radio. She brings the leading lights in this field on the show to talk about everything from finding a good doctor to dealing with the emotional aspects of injury. RSI Help Radio provides a valuable service to people all around the world because the show is available on the Internet.
The money you donate will be used for researching topics, planning episodes, contacting guests, editing transcripts and broadcasting the show. The show is already on the air, and several segments are available in archived form at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/rsihelp, but funds are needed right away to help keep it going.
People with RSI face many difficult problems: chronic pain; unemployment and unemployability; disability; and sometimes despair. RSI Help Radio will be a source of comfort and assistance to people who desperately need good guidance. The RSI community – and Deborah Quilter herself – will be enormously grateful for your help.
