Help us get to World Finals competition!
This team of 4th graders from R.L. Stevenson Elementary School are the 2019 Florida State Champions and will be representing the school, and state of Florida, at the Odyssey of the Mind Finals Competition in Michigan. Money raised will go toward our team and family costs for travel and accommodations. In March this incredible team placed 1st at the Space Coast regional Odyssey of the Mind competition achieving a perfect score. On April 6th they competed against the top teams from the state of Florida and once again placed 1st place earning them a spot at the World Finals competition to be held at Michigan State University at the end of May. At World Competition they will compete against the winning teams from forty eight states, as well as many countries from around the world. World teams also include winners from China, India, Poland, Russia, Canada, Mexico and many others. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for these awesome kids.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem-solving program that engages students in their learning by allowing their knowledge and ideas to come to life in an exciting, productive environment. Participants build self-confidence, develop life skills, and create new friendships. Odyssey recognizes the importance of many of the skills now emphasized in education today such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The program combines that with history and art and has encouraged learning these subjects through the Classics and performance problems. Odyssey solutions require students to perform, not just the sciences, but the arts as well – whether it be set-building, costume-making, creating props, acting, singing, or playing an instrument.
