Hip Hop Nutcracker/RACE Dance

Donation protected
Students from six  Oklahoma City Public Schools join members of RACE Dance  in the fourth annual production of the Hip Hop Nutcracker (HHN) in Oklahoma City.  Performances are set for Dec. 11th and 12th at 8:00 pm and Dec. 13th at 2:00 pm at Petuskey Performing Arts Theatre at Bishop McGuinness High School.

Through Dec. 10th tickets can be purchased online at  http://tickets.racedance.com.   Pre Sale of  General admission tickets are $18.  There is a processing fee when you purchase tickets online.  Tickets at the door are $23 and $15 for Seniors, age 55 and up.

What is unique about this show?  Students enrolled in dance programs at Capitol Hill High School,  John Marshall High School,  Putnam City North High School, Northwest Classen High School, Oklahoma Centennial Mid High School and U.S. Grant High School are involved.   The dance instructors of the schools were emailed regarding their desire to participate, and they responded back if they wanted to be involved. Members of RACE Dance meet with the students once to twice a week leading up to the show, teaching them choreography, and fundamentals of hip hop.

Executive Director Hui Cha Poos says being able to include kids who normally do not get the opportunity to perform outside of school advances RACE's mission to bring social awarenenss and change through dance performances and education.  "It is about giving them the experience of a professional show so they can understand dance on another level.  It also brings kids together form different schools in a non-competitive environment to perpetuate a culture of collaboration and inclusion,"  said Poos, Executive Director of RACE.

Like the original Nutcracker, HHN follows the journey of a young man who seeks to find something missing from his life, only to discover that "it" already exists inside himself.  However, HHN's high energy music, and dance styles incorporatemany more twists and turns than the traditional Nutcrakers.  The take away for the audience is a message of perserverance, family and holiday spirit.

Why does RACE Dance need your help ?  RACE Dance wants to make this the best experience for all of the high schoolers involved and continue to make this a holiday tradition for them.  In order for RACE Dance to do this, we need additional funding for costumes, staging, production overhead, choregraphers, and much more.  In addition, we would like to present the students with souvenir style gifts so they can always remember this special performance.  We also want to give a stipend to each school to help their dance programs grow.  Lastly, it is our hope that we sell out Bishop McGuinness High School's auditorium so we are forced to find a larger venue.  We want these high school performers to feel a role in our efforts to grow this performance and have a great memory to look back on forever.

Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated.   If you cannot donate here, we ask that you share our GO FUND ME campaingn and check out the show.  Thank you for reading our story!!!
