West Virginia Flood Relief
On Thursday, June 23rd, Southern West Virginia expereinced rainfall and thuderstorms dropping as much as 12 inches of rain. Rivers overflowed their banks as water rushed off the mountains to produce what is being considered a "once in a thousand years flood." One of the towns being hardest hit is Rainelle WV, Ben's hometown. While his family lives on higher ground, the devestation and total loss of the town beyond comprehension. With the death toll in WV at 24, families have lost children and children have lost parents. This news is heartwrenching knowing that our friends and their neighbors are suffering through such a difficult time. We'd like to ease their needs.
Each 4th of July weekend, we travel to Greenbrier county to visit with family and enjoy the tradition of the Alderson 4th og July Parade. Ben, myself and the boys are still heading "in" but we now feel compelled to offer assistance to those effected by the flood. Our goal is to travel in with our 20 ft long dump trailer loaded down with essentials for those needing our help. They are desperately in need of cases of water, toiletries, cleaning supplies, baby food, formula, wipes and diapers.
The money raised with this fundraiser will be used to directly purchase these items to deliver them in Rainelle WV on Saturday, July 2nd. Donations will be made through the Meadow Bridge Baptist Church. The pastor is a West Virginia State policeman overseeing the search and rescue efforts. There will be complete transparency with all reciepts kept for recording. NO cash will be given to anyone.
