Your incredible stories, dedication, inspiration (and resultant perspiration) have been incredible. I've had this bike since November 2014 and I can attest to all the things this bike and community can be.
I'm starting this campaign on behalf of a co-worker. Alisa, 50, living in Long Island NY, is a wife and mother of two wonderful young adults, one in college and the other in HS. Her husband, however has been suffering from early onset Alzhiemer's disease. With him being unable to work, she has been increasingly burdened with escalating adult care costs. She's finding it difficult to cover the mounting expense, much less afford a gym. She must care for him as soon as the aide leaves and can never leave him unattended as he tends to wander.
Of course, this results in immense stress and physical, emotional, and financial hardships. Accordingly, she has little time for herself, which includes a desire to get to the gym and improve her own health.
She was talking to me this past Friday about the bike (yes, like you, I talk too much about it). It occured to me that she would be the perfect candidate for a campaign like this. This bike would allow her to stay home when she has to, but give her the freedom to exercise and de-stress.
Additionally, she says her husband is bored at home and has always loved to ride bikes. He even snuck out to ride his son's friend's bike the other day. So this could be a good outlet for him as well, riding and doing something during the day.
I've never done anything like this before, but I don't think it would take more than a few dollars from a bunch of my fellow crazies here to wrap our collective arms around someone.
There's no pressure from me. If you'd like to contribute, please feel free. And if you can not, just promise to welcome her if we can do this. Regardless, thanks for reading and considering.
