After Irma Pearl and Elliot

Several weeks after Hurricane Irma, a lady in the neighborhood, Tina, saw these two rabbits out like this.  She posted a notice on the Next Door app to see if anyone had lost pet rabbits. No one knew where they had come from, but every day she saw them in the same place outside of a neighbor's fence, foraging like this.

Those of us who keep pet rabbits knew they couldn't survive indefinitely like this.

Tina discovered that the people who owned the rabbits had set them loose before Hurricane Irma.  She asked them if she could rehome them, and they helped her catch them, and she took them away. 

All the local rescues are full to capacity and couldn't take the rabbits. Tina found a family in the neighborhood to foster the rabbits until a new home can be found. That is where they are now. 

Because the rabbits were out foraging for weeks, they'd had some diarrhea. Their tails were clotted up, and the white rabbit Pearl, had some problems with her ears. 

We agreed that the rabbits needed vet visits, and Tina has footed most of the vet bills so far. This is a bonded pair of rabbits, and we are sure Ellliot is intact, so they will be going to the humane society for spay and neuter. The vet also said their teeth were sharp and needed floating. We are hoping the humane society will do that as well. 

The spay and neuter will cost $40 for each rabbit. The first vet visit was $120, and a second ear cleaning cost $20, and feed hay and pellets $25.

We don't know what the human society will charge for trimming or floating their teeth. The vet charges $90 each.

We are hoping for $300 from this funding campaign, and if there's any left over will go for feed if they are adopted from the foster family,  or as a donation to a rescue if that is where they go. 

These rabbits are a bonded pair. They are docile and will make sweet pets with the right family.   

We are not a licensed rescue, we are just neighbors who saw a problem and couldn't let it be. Please help us to foot the vet bills for these two very sweet and now fortunate rabbits.
