Meg's Paralympic Fundraiser

Donation protected

I need your help.  I am trying to earn a position on Team USA's Rio Paralympic Cycling squad and defend my Gold Medal from the London Games.  I can't do it without you.

The money raised will help me reach my goal and demonstrate to the World that, even with a disability, we are all more able than we know.  Any funds raised will offset the cost of a cycing specific prosthetic leg, cycling equipment, race fees, and travel expenses.    In exchange for your help I will send you a sticker with my logo as a thank you.  You can check out my logo and learn more about me at MeganFisher.org .

The Paralympic Trials will be held July 2nd in Charlotte, NC.  This big race is less than 100 days away and anything you donate will help - no matter how small.

I will need to raise at least $3,990 in order to make it to the Paralympic Trials.  Cost breakdown: Prosthetic Leg $800, Coaching $300, Local Race Entry Fees $200, Airfare to Charlotte ~$1,000, Hotel ~ $700, Rental Car ~$900, Race Entry $50, and Food $40 (I eat a lot of rice and beans).

Sport at the highest level becomes more than a full-time job.  I suppose that's why it's called being a "professional athlete."  There is never a moment in the day when I am not a cyclist.  Everything I eat, every hour I sleep, every pedal stroke, and every mile is measured and analyzed in the hot pursuit of making the Rio Team.  Given the dedication and commitment needed to make the Rio Team, I work less hours at my other job.  Unlike some of my competitiors, I still have to work to make ends meet.  In truth, I will need to raise more to fully offset the costs of this season.  When I'm not on my bike, in the gym, or sleeping, I work as a physical therapist at a local hospital.  I love working with patients and their families.  I remember what it's like to be the one in the bed, so I care for each patient how I would wish to be treated.  While I love my job, I must focus on my cycling career right now.  Any donation will help reduce the financial stress of being a professional athlete.  I look forward to to sharing my journey to Rio and lifelong mission of  overcoming obstacles with everyone.

Making the Rio Team will be a dream come true and I will have you to thank.  Please make a donation and share my journey with you friends and colleagues.  In addition to my role as a physical therapist I am also a motivational speaker.  I have spoken across the country and I would be thrilled to share my story with your company.  Feel free to contact me at [email redacted].

Many thanks.

Meg

The ClifNotes of my life look like this:
- Born in Canada- therefore I am exceptionally kind.  In case you were wondering, I am a dual citizen which allows me to proudly race for Team USA
- Split my growing up years between Chicago, Illinois and my family's farm in Canada.  So, I learned to speak fluent Canadian, deep dish pizza, and Cubs baseball.
 - Moved to Montana in 2001 for college and to play tennis for the University of Montana.
- In June 2002, my best friend and I were involved in a horrible car accident.  Tragically, she lost her life.  The crash ripped off my leg and left me in a coma.
-My recovery was slow.  I actually had to have my left leg amputated twice!
- Eleven months after the last surgery to cut off more of my leg, I completed my first triathlon.
- I have won 10 World Championship Titles; 5 UCI cycling, 3 ITU Triathlon, 2 XTERRA Traithlon
- I earned Gold and Silver medals at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.  I was part of the road race squad who helped my teammate earn a Bronze Medal.
