Koa’s Battle with Parvo

A local breeder surrendered two very sick, parvo-positive, 5-week-old puppies. Without hesitation, we immediately took over their care. We knew we were in for an expensive and emotional journey. The two boys, one fawn/one black, came into our care fragile and sweet.
As most dog people know, parvovirus is extremely contagious, debilitating, and often deadly. Most cases are seen in puppies who have not been vaccinated yet or dogs who were never vaccinated. Treatment must be started in the early stages in order to be the most affective.
With great sadness and only a short time with us, the fawn boy succumbed to the virus. It broke our hearts. The black boy, who we named Koa (meaning “brave little one” in Hawaiian), is still fighting! He is at the vet under constant care. His vet bills, along with the bills his sweet brother incurred, are predicted to reach around $5000.
