Pam Mark Hall-Mangle the Tango

Story:
Hi! I'm Pam Mark Hall.  It's been over two decades since I recorded my last album.  Some of you know me from my early records - "Flying," "This is Not a Dream," "Never Fades Away," "Supply and Demand."  Some of you know me from producing the beloved lullaby album "Good Night, Sleep Tight." And some of you know me from later work, the rockin' "Keeper" and folky "Paler Shade."  Some of you may not know my music at all.  I hope to change that.

Since recording my last album "Paler Shade," so much water has gone under the bridge.  I've worked with the homeless and battered women and children; sold advertising and insurance.  I've been up, down, all around, full circle; now I begin again to share my stories and lessons through music and art.

Like so many others, I lost everything in the recession and had to begin over again.  There were days I felt like I was on a raft, adrift in the ocean with no sail or rudder.  And then the responsibility and stress of caring for an aging parent with dementia arose.   I felt stripped of everything.  And it was exactly there, stripped of everything that I was able, with God's help, to embrace and be gentle with myself and believe I was of value. Not because of achievements or possessions, but simply because of who God made me, who I am - my heart, my intentions - my openness to others.

I learned how to "Chop Wood, and Carry Water" to be faithful in the little things.  From this place emerged a new understanding of how common these challenges are to all of us boomers.

We are at a stage of life where knowing that we still matter is a common struggle.  We've lived long enough to experience both successes and failures and are challenged with making sense of it all.

What:
My mission is to record a new album of songs to affirm that you (we) do matter, have something important to contribute and it's still worth getting up to dance.

Perfection is deadly.  It stops us in our tracks.  It stops us from never beginning something we dream to accomplish.  But we say "Oh, no, I'm too old to do that.  It won't be good enough"  These songs encourage us to get up and take a baby step and keep taking those baby steps, even if we stumble and "Mangle the Tango."

"Mangle the Tango" is the title of the new album.

Another theme is both the outlandish love and mystery of God.  One can know and not-know all at the same time.  Seeking and finding, avoiding and being found are a life-long dance.  It's our job to keep chopping wood, and carrying water - being faithful doing the little things in the dark so we can shine in the light.

How:
My lifelong friend, consummate musician, philosopher, producer, Roy Salmond is co-producing the album with me in his beautiful studio in Vancouver, British Columbia.   We'll be using studio players up there to record the tracks, along with me playing some guitar and keyboards.Roy Salmond  and Pam Mark Hall at Whitewater Studio 2015

Extra Treats!
My good friend Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary is playing guitar and singing with me on a song called "Joy Runs Deep."   We performed it live in a concert a couple of years ago and it was so well received I really wanted to include it on this project.Noel Paul Stookey and Pam Mark Hall

Then, if that's not enough, my friend and musical hero - Canadian icon Bruce Cockburn is playing guitar and singing with me on his gorgeous song "All the Diamonds."   Bruce and I are recording March 7, 2017 in Berkeley, CA.Pam Mark Hall and Bruce Cockburn

One of the songs I've written is based on the story of the best-selling book "The Shack."

I could go on and on with details of "Mangle the Tango."

Like most other artists, I have no record label and I'm doing all of this myself.   Which means I have to raise the money to make it happen.   So now I turn to you to be my partners in bringing this vision to life.   I view this as more than a fund-raising campaign, I view it also as a community builder.   To that end, I've partnered with the Cyrus Music Foundation , a not-for profit that raises scholarship funds for children for music lessons.
A portion of all donations and sales of Mangle the Tango will go to Cyrus Music Foundation.

I need you, and I hope you need me too.  We encourage one another.   Please, let's do this dance together!  Even if we "Mangle the Tango."

Since I'm funding it through Cyrus Music Foundation ,  your donation is tax deductible.  You will receive a letter confirming the amount of your donation.  Make sure you put your contact information in the comments box.

I'll be thanking you for your donations with various gifts that I think you'll enjoy.   Scroll down to see gifts at various levels of giving.
