Laterrika was a 14-year old, healthy, student-athlete who played basketball, was an honor student, and played the saxophone in the Tapp MS Band. She was member of the 6th-8th Grade McEachern Indians Basketball Team as well a member of Peak Performance AAU Team. She had aspirations of one day playing in the WNBA where she would be a dominating point guard-- she was the total package: smart, respectful, beautiful, but most of all, a humble and God-fearing spirit. Anyone who met her would easily fall in love with her beautiful smile and gravitate to her outgoing personality.

Shortly, after graduating from Tapp Middle School's 8th grade, she visited the new water park at Six Flags back at the end of May--she was actually there the day it opened. She started feeling sick the night she came home. Upset stomach, sore throat and a bad cough. She went from Kennestone, to Scottish Rite to Emory hospitals. These past few weeks her lungs had gotten worse with some type of bacterial infection. She was put on a breathing machine in the  in the hospital and this past Thursday, July 17, 2014 a blood clot formed that the machine did not catch. She was without oxygen for 7 minutes. Her blood pressure progressively dropped and once she was removed from the machine she passed.

The Family is being strong, but as we all know, their hearts are breaking. Not only do they have to contend with burial, but also the mounting medical expenses incurred while in the hospital for six weeks. In addition to the Wells Fargo account, we are establishing this fund for those who are out of town, no access to a Wells Fargo branch, etc. This GoFundMe account was created as another branch to raise as much as we can to help this wonderful Family. Not only did the Freemans lose their daughter, but they will be also burying a nephew who was gunned down for no fault of his own.

We are establishing this fund to help the Family offset these expenses as well as to assist with the financial obligations of their three other little girls  (LaNya- 10, Laila- 8, Lareese-4); there is also a big brother Vincent-24, who is stepping up as well.  The Father (Laurice) is self-employed and as most are aware, if he does not work, he does not get paid. He has been by his daughter's side each and every moment along with her Mom (Kim) until she took her last breath.

Please continue to lift this family in your prayers and consider assisting a Family in their time of need. One day, it could be you or me.
