World Finals!!!
Join us on our amazing journey. Our 3 teams from Oradell Public School and Riverdell Middle School won 1st place at the NJ State Odyssey of the Mind competition. STATE CHAMPIONS!!
On May 25th the 5th, 6th, and 7th grade teams will be traveling to Iowa State University to represent the state of New Jersey and compete in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals. All 3 teams have worked extremely hard on costumes, props, vehicles/devices, and really entertaining skits. Please help send our Oradell teams to Odyssey of the Mind World Finals. We have to transport costumes, props, and all 18 team members to Iowa State University. No donation is too small.
What is Odyssey of the Mind
Odyssey of the Mind was created by Dr. C. Samuel Micklus, Professor Emeritus at Rowan University in New Jersey. In 1978, 28 New Jersey schools participated in the very first creative problem-solving competition ever.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from K through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.
The teams prepare for months for the long term problem within the stated parameters. The teams design and create their own costumes, props, vehicles/devices, and skits. All components of the long term problem must be created from everyday items within the given budget. The teams also compete in a spontaneous challenge which involves either a verbal or "hands on" problem. The teams never know what to expect for the spontaneous challenge but need to work together as a team to creatively solve the given problem.
