Triple Negative but I'm Positive

CANCER diagnosis: Triple Negative, but I’m positive.  Hello! I’m KaShanta's mother.  The saddest day of my life was June 11, 2015, the day my daughter died - just ten days after her birthday.  Inside and outside, she was a gorgeous 38 year old divorcee and mother of two beautiful daughters.

Many are still asking us what can you do to help?  We will not need flowers as she requested to be cremated and we will not need plants, because she loved them and had several that we will keep in her memory.  Obviously, she will not need the gofund any longer for her expensive ketogenic diet, supplements, etc.  However, we will take care of some final expenses as we pack up her apartment in San Antonio and finalize accounts by July 1.  For now, her gofund is still active.  There is a $5 minimum charge, however if you would still like to make good on your pledges.   Much love and God bless!

HISTORY:
May of 2012, tests confirmed a diagnosis of HER2 Triple Negative breast cancer with lymph node involvement.

February 2015, due to another large tumor, KaShanta endured radiation which left visible burns and damaged her lungs.

Since the diagnosis, she has spent countless hours researching holistic and alternative therapies that have proven to help many. Throughout this ordeal, she has continued to work as she has since high school – very independent. Lately, it has become increasingly more difficult for her just to get out of bed.

Insurance requires that everyone receive the same treatments: Chemo, Radiation and/or Surgery.  Our daughter has had a double mastectomy with (reconstruction), chemo, and radiation. Still, that was not enough to halt the progression of this debilitating disease.

The good news is: she has found a doctor, who is offering a possible solution, but it is unorthodox. Unfortunately, it is expensive.  Insurance will not pay anything and a caregiver will be necessary to make this trip.

I am passionately pursuing a cure for my daughter, as any mother understands.  A $1 donation would be appreciated as much as $100, because you cared.

We are praying and believing God that one day she will have the opportunity to fulfill her strong desire to lobby on Capitol Hill for Medical Freedom of Choice - for there is no such thing as one size fits all – not even in medicine.

Currently, she is fighting the natural way and using prescription medications for pain. According to doctors, the prognosis isn’t good since this type of cancer does not respond well to traditional treatment. They gave her a year  to live in January 2015. It is considered to be super aggressive and loves to travel to the brain. Unknowingly, she has been living with cancer since 2010 - longer if you count the time it took to manifest as the first tumor in her right breast.

In order to help herself, she has incorporated the ketogenic diet (no sugar, gluten, GMO’s, processed food, or antibiotic meats).  Eighty percent of her diet is raw vegetables.  Along with juicing daily, she ingests a plethora of supplements, prays, meditates, makes positive confessions and walks her dog for exercise when she can.

She loves Sprout’s, bountiful baskets (farmers-coop), farmers markets, HEB Organics, plants, animals, and most of all humanity.

She received an honorable discharge and other awards from the military, but was told she has no benefits.  (I’m still baffled.)  One of the hardest things in the world has been for me to watch our daughter struggle and suffer so much adversity; yet she does not want pity. Fortuanately, she is employed by loving and supportive people who allow her to come into work when she can. They have even created a rest area for her on site where she can lay down as needed. She is thankful!!!

As her mother, I WILL exhaust every option to help my child survive.  I will never give up this fight.

Please help me spread the word and make this fund go to the top for her.  Thank you! (Patrick Elizab eth, mother)

P.S. KaShanta has temporarily suspended writing a book about this journey.  She is one of the most giving people I know and determined in 2014 that she would aid others.  As a result, my family and I are in the process of establishing The KaShanta Sims Foundation, which will be a 501(c)3 in the future that will empower women with knowledge and resources to beat cancer, while providing relief to those burdened by socioeconomic factors that leaves them at a disadvantage, like she’s facing.
