I am a Marine Corps Veteran and Sheriff's Deputy in the process of starting a small Non-Profit Organization that replaces worn and tattered flags. I have started this GoFundMe page to accept donations for the future purchase of flags.
Fresh from overseas, driving down the highway, I noticed a tattered flag on top of a grain silo. I went to the closest Wal-Mart to purchase a new flag. Later that day I returned to the farm to find an old man outside working on a tractor. I introduced myself and explained my presence. He said the flag was flying for his son that was killed in Iraq, but he could not climb up to replace it due to his age. I asked him if it would be okay if I replaced the worn flag with a new one, which I did.

I will be giving the old flags to local boy scout troops for proper retirment, in hopes of continuing education of proper flag etiquette to our younger generations.
