I want to thank you for taking the time to understand our life. Having a child with extreme disabilities means many unexpected medical expenses, trips across the state for appointments and around the clock care. It is both a devastating and unbelievably love filled life. Rett Syndrome, Olivia’s diagnosis, was a crushing blow to our family both financially and emotionally. The subsequent divorce, as a result of the diagnosis, from my husband further devastated and nearly collapsed our finances. There are critical needs for Olivia on a daily basis to ensure she has as long a life as God and her medical team can devise. Olivia has made many trips to Oakland from our home in Los Angeles to Katie’s Clinic at Children’s Hospital Oakland. The clinic, located 400 miles away, is the best place for Olivia’s Rett Syndrome care. It is also the location of life saving research that can both improve her life as it is now and down stream maybe provide therapies to save her life. It is critical that she attend these appointments. Olivia has thrived thanks to this medical care and our continuing belief in the power of prayer. That being said expenses have mounted exponentially with only one income. This is the reason I, with substantial embarrassment, ask for you for your help. I purchased a vitally needed handicap van that at the time I was able afford but with the divorce and being a single mother has out stretched my budget. Olivia and I need $10,000 to pay off this $40,000 van cost. At this point the situation has become dire and any help that you, my village, can provide would be vital.
