Micro Opera Ensemble (MOE) needs your help!
About MOE:
We are a group of young performers who met during our time at the DePaul University School of Music in Chicago, IL. We are currently rehearsing our production of the one act radio opera, The Old Maid and The Thief by Gian Carlo Menotti, which will premiere November 13th, 7 pm at DePaul University's Recital Hall.
Why this project?
An important part of our training as voice performance majors is to understand the process and demands of learning a role. Not only does this project fulfill this aspect of our education, but it prepares us to navigate the modern classical music industry, which relies heavily on self-produced work.
The $$$$:
Many start up opera companies in the Chicago area count on monetary gifts and contributions from the community to make their performances happen. This is where we need your help!
We are only looking to cover our larger expenses, some of which include:
- Paying our pianists for rehearsals and performances ($30 pays for one of our daily rehearsals!)
- Period costuming for our 1939 setting ($75 pays for one costume!)
- The cost of reserving a venue for a second performance on the 14th (anywhere from $250-750)
- Paying our director, a DePaul alumnus looking to begin her career directing operas
- Paying to have the performance recorded ($100), set pieces, etc.
As you can see, even small contributions will go to good use! We would be grateful for any help we can receive!
Anyone who donates $30 or more will receive an audio recording of the performance, either in digital or CD form. We hope this can give our out-of-town family and friends the closest experience to being there in person, as this show was originally conceived as an opera for the radio.
