Nightingale Nursing Scholarship

*In Colorado, more than 2,000 nurses retire each year, but only 1,100 students graduate from nursing programs;
*Recruiting & retaining qualified nurses in rural areas is difficult in comparison to urban centers due to fewer resources, lower pay, and patients being sicker;
*Last year, Jen Adams, a 2nd year student, received the SW Community Nursing Scholarship and here is some of what she said: "To have been recognized by my fellow classmates in such a way was quite an honor. I have applied the award toward my tuition and have invested in a refurbished laptop to aid in my schoolwork. I feel so grateful for the community support AHEC provides nursing students in this region as well as their support for improving rural health care. This nursing journey has taken me so many places physically, educationally, emotionally and spiritually. I feel motivated and empowered to move into our health care community and learn how I best serve this region. Thank you once again to my instructors, my peers and AHEC".
