Update on Natalie and upcoming surgery ❤️

Last week Natalie saw her orthopedic doctor and had Xrays taken of her spine. The curve in her spine has worsened from 55° to 90° in an 8 month period and has started twisting.

This is probably why there was so much difficulty with her last injection (3 attempts/dates, 2 with fluoroscopy, & from what we counted around 30 pokes in her back/spine).

Time and again she reminds us muscles aren’t the only way to define strength.

All that in mind we’ve moved surgery to correct her scoliosis up July to April 4th (Next week! ). They’ll straighten her spine as much as possible, fuse it, and rods placed next to her spine.

It’s a 4-5 day hospital stay and the several weeks sitting at a specific angle all day to allow everything to heal well.

In addition to all of that our accessible van is in need of repairs. It’s our only way to transport Natalie’s 350lb power chair.

We’ve had so many people ask how they can help.

Prayers - for Natalie, her medical team, for us as parents, and for our boys. Aside from our practical and spiritual needs, we are praying for a God to use this for His glory.

Financially - We’ve had to make multiple trips to Iowa City and back. Each one costing between $75-$100 for gas and food stops.
The only vehicle that can transport Natalie’s power wheelchair also needs multiple repairs.  $250-$1000
All of the extra added medical expenses, time off of work, care for our other 2 kiddos while we are gone and the unknown expenses that we just don’t know.
Any amount you can give is so greatly appreciated by our family.

We feel so exceptionally supported by our family and friends already! Thanks for loving our family so well!

UPDATE on the Van:
We bought an accessible van!! A huge thank you for all the support! What a relief to be able to have safe and reliable transportation for our family.

What's next... House:
What a learning process this has been. What we originally thought would cost $10,000 ended up closer to $75,000+ to remodel our home so that it would meet Natalie's needs. And even that came with problems like the potential of messing with a load bearing wall.

So what's next for our family?

We are beginning to look at our expenses for the 2016 year and as daunting as they seem we know that God is always faithful in fulfilling our needs. The first step in making some home improvements is going to be putting in hard flooring. We've had it priced out and it looks as though it's going to cost between $6,000 to $10,000 to have the house done. Beyond that we have our normal medical check up expenses and wheelchair repairs that are needed. As always, we thank you all so much for anything you can give to help. We know that your support is what helps us get through the day to day life and also helps us overcome some of the bigger challenges we face. Thank you all so much!

August is SMA awareness month and we wanted you to know about ways you can help Natalie and our family this month. We have a number of projects that we need help funding or help doing ourselves. I have updated the page with the costs of each major project. If you are able to help in any way let us know.
Also, if you are in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area we do have a local account set up at Veridian Credit Union under Natalie's name. If you would like to donate to that it would be easier for us to get to that in order to fund these projects.
Thank you all for your generous support and prayers for our family. You all mean so much to us and we can never thank you enough. You have made a big impact in the life of Natalie and our family.
