Nala_TheGoldenOne, PRAA surgery

The patient and her story:

Nala is a social butterfly that is pretty certain that each person she meets is the best person ever. This 15 week old golden retriever grins from ear to ear at every person she meets and wags her tail so emphatically that it nearly hits her big floppy golden ears.

Early in the morning, October 15th, a medical scare turned out to be a mixed blessing in disguise. She was able to sneak to the cats box and eat some of the World's Best Cat Litter that we have for our 10 year old siamese.  Dogs do that. It happens, but  we took her to the vet because she seemed to be having trouble breathing.

After most of the day she had passed the litter but x-ray's and beryllium showed a strange result in her esophagus. After taking her to a specialist, we were informed she is suffering from a congenital defect. It is know as Persistent Right Aortic Arch :

The mixed blessing is she is young enough that with a surgery to remove the constricting blood vessel, she should regain full use of her esophagus and develop into a full sized healthy dog like she deserves.

What the funds are for:

Any funds gathered will help me afford this heart surgery. The $1000 we spent today for all of the tests and opinions drained my current funds and the $5000 will be all credit. The surgery is planned for 10/22/16 as she is under observation to make sure that there is no pneumonia developing from aspiration of the kitty litter before she goes under the knife.

Who we are:
I am taking grad classes at Portland State University, studying electrical engineering while tutoring and TA'ing for the ECE department during the week then working in a bar on the weekends to afford my education.

Amanda works for the Oregon Department of Corrections and has wanted a canine companion for years. I finally acquiesced this summer due to feeling guilty that I am so busy trying to make a great life for us. We struck gold with Nala, as she has one of greatest personalities we could hope for,  if a bit of a challenge at the moment.

We appreciate any support and well wishes for our little golden one. Spread the word and share her instagram if you know people that would like to peak at this little piece of sunshine.

She has an instagram at Nala_thegoldenone that we will update pre and post surgery.
