The Nova Scotia SPCA is celebrating World Spay Day, Feb 28 2017, with a goal to provide 100 Spay or Neuter surgeries at NO COST to low income pet owners across the province.

Steele Mazda has generously offered to match all donations made up to $2,000! Double the difference you can make for families in need.

Pets are a beloved part of our families.  Our hope is that this program will improve the lives of families aided by this initiative, not only the lives of the companion animals but also their human caretakers.  A spayed/neutered pet is less likely to become lost and stray, less likely to develop behaviour issues so more likely to remain with their family.  Many caring pet owners struggle to afford spay/neuter services before their pet reaches maturity at only 6 months of age.  When a family pet has a litter, that adds to the overpopulation problem in Nova Scotia and puts a strain on the caretakers as well as shelters and rescue groups, even when rehomed privately those rehomed pets sometimes later end up at a shelter or rescue.

Thank you for helping us keep families in need united with thier pets. We believe that no family is complete without the love and companionship of a four legged friend. No family or child should have to grow up without the experience of love of an animal.

I was wondering when I would know if Milo would be picked or not I'm 62 and these two dogs are rescues. the three yr. old is fixed. But Milo the male is not, they were taking him to the SPCA in Waterville when I took him in. some days it's between something for the dogs or something for me , and no question I will not let the dogs go without. Being on a fixed income is not great. Thank you for you consideration. Jocelyn
