New London Police K9 Unit

The New London Police Union has started a fundraiser to purchase two
trained German Shepard Dogs for the police K9 Unit. The goal is $28,000.00 for both dogs certified for patrol work and narcotics detection.
Our K9 Unit has a proud history of excellence recognized by the Wasson Award for Connecticut's Top K9 Team in 1998, 1999, 2003, 2004, and 2008. However recent budget cuts allowed our K9 Unit to dwindle from four dogs to just one blood hound.

Mayor Michael Passero and Chief Peter Richard decided to revitalize the program with the naming of Officers Chris Bunkley and Joe Kondash as the next dog handlers plus an additional two patrol dogs in FY18-19.
Expanding the department program with these new K9's will allow us to assist officers in many aspects of policing including the location of illegal narcotics, criminal apprehension, tracking of both suspects and others who may be lost or in danger, evidence recovery and school program that help building bridges with community relations.

With current City budgets restraints having no funding available to purchase the dogs New London Police Chief Peter Richard has asked the Police Union to help the City raise money for these new dogs. With community support we can make these K9's a reality. Please join us in the next step in improving our community and help us take a bite out of crime with your support to make this happen.

100% of all K9 donations will go directly to the purchase and training of  the dog and handler. All donations large and small are appreciated.
