We are Music-and-More Studio & Promotions of NC LLC a growing music recording studio and teaching facility. Our business is located in historic Downtown Wilson, NC. We have been in the music industry professionally for over 30 years. We teach all types of musical instruments, voice, staging and positive reinforcement. The special needs program is directed by Crissy Oravits a mom of 3 special needs children. accompanied by Musical Director Melanie. What we realized was that the special needs population did not have a place they could come to and experience music or try to learn music or explore music in their own way, so our love for the special needs population sparked us to create affordable special needs music lessons.
The special needs population (kids or adults) greatly benefit from our musical services, however some due to medical conditions or other financial burdens still can not afford a $25.00 session or their own simple instrument to call their own. Their smiles and hugs are the greatest reward to us because they have the same opportunity given to them as our normal population of students do. We want to continue this and grow it.
We are asking for help to grow our business and help the special needs population by donating what you can to give a child or special needs adult this opportunity to have a simple instrument and enjoy a 30 minute one on one music session just for them. The money donated will go to purchase student guitars, small lightweight keyboards, rhythm instruments and low cost microphones along with their music session. Each session only costs $25.00 per special needs person. This will allow the special needs population to have additional musical sessions with their own instrument.
We plan to do these sessions long term , but we have decided to start the program for the summer while school is out of session. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated as soon as you can. We currently have a few sponsors but not nearly enough to meet the special needs population and service children and adults in our area who truly enjoy music of all kinds.
Teaching a child or adult with special needs music is a universal language everyone understands. To watch a mute child place his or her hand on a drum and feel and find their own rhythm is a beautiful thing to witness. Watching a child with autism who can't otherwise communicate place their hands on a piano and press the keys and squeel with delight and try to pick out simple notes is wonderful insight understanding what makes that child smile. Placing a lightweight keyboard on the lap of a person who is wheelchair bound that has limited movement of their arms touch a keyboard with one or two fingers and make a sound will melt your heart when that big smile comes across that sweet face.
We are already so thankful and blessed that we can help spend time and give the gift of teaching music to others, but helping our special needs population enjoy music and learn what they want to learn and just be who they want to be is a special gift. For each child/person sponsored we will place their picture on our website along with video clips showing just how happy music makes them feel with their instrument. In the future we want to record some of their progress and put it on a compilation cd to share with others their love of music.
