Montagnard refugee assistance

Donation protected
As many of you may know, several hundred Montagnard asylum seekers have fled to Cambodia and Thailand in the past three years. With the exception of a few individuals who were resettled in third countries, the Montagnard refugees are living in fear, poverty, and desperation awaiting their fate at various sites in Cambodia and Thailand.  Most are in limbo until they have interviews with UNHCR.  In Thailand, this can take several years. In Cambodia, the situation is perhaps even more dire with the danger of forced repatriation at any moment. In Thailand, the asylum seekers face arrest and deportation by the Thai immigration police. There are approximately 177 refugees in Cambodia at this time and 224 in Thailand.

On April 5-14, 2016,  Rong Nay and John R . Alles, representing the Montagnard Human Rights Organization (MHRO) and the Council of Indigenous Peoples in Today’s Vietnam (CIP-TVN) will be traveling to Thailand and Cambodia on a fact- finding mission. The objectives are:

a)  assess the Montagnard refugee situation in Thailand and Cambodia
b) conduct interviews with many of the Montagnard asylum seekers and refugees
c) determine the greatest need as identified by the refugees
d) meet U.S. Embassy officials and staff from BPSOS
e) meet with other NGOs in Bangkok and Phnom Penh, including Jesuit Refugee Services
f) visit the Immigration Detention Center (IDC) and some of the Montagnards who suffer there in isolation and hopelessness
g) provide cash assistance to the refugees
h) follow up the results of the mission to determine the best approach in assisting the asylum seekers and refugees in the future

Both the Montagnard Human Rights Organization and the Council of Indigenous Peoples in Todays Vietnam are 501c3 qualified, so your gift is tax deductible.

The living conditions of the refugees are very difficult. For that reason, this particular mission aims to provide some financial assistance to the various groups. Any donations that are received for this mission will be used exclusively to aid these poor refugee's as they continue to escape persecution, imprisonment and torture.

We are very grateful for any support you can give, and be assured that your gift will have an immediate impact on the living conditions of these our dear friends, as they await their fate.
