Medical Bill Support for My Mom

Donation protected
Hi. I am not one for asking for help, but I love my mother so much and she has been there for me through the worst times of my life and I want to help her through probably the worst time of her life right now.

March 5th, 2018 my mom was scheduled for a brain MRI (after being denied by her insurance company twice already due to them deeming it unnecessary). That day changed our lives forever. The MRI tech shooed us in a tiny room and showed us an image on his phone from a text he was sending to the radiologist. My mom had a brain tumor. Not only a brain tumor, but massive swelling and midline shift causing her entire right side to be weakened. She was immediately sent to an emergency room nearby who started her on a steroid called dexamethasone to help stop the swelling in her brain. They referred us to a neurosurgeon who we met with the next day, and between our minds swirling with fear and desperation, a brain biopsy was scheduled for the following day to see what this mass was. However, the insurance, again, was not wanting to help us in this endeavor because they deemed it "preplanned" and we didn't notify them in time. They are completely being a hindrance in my mom's recovery because every little procedure she needs to help save her life is denied for some inane reason.

Anyway, she received the biopsy nonetheless and was told that the tumor was more than likely secondary metastasis from an adenocarcinoma she had in her lung (which they could not even identify on a future PET scan other than one tiny lymph node that lit up). However, due to it being a secondary, it was deemed automatic Stage 4 and her radio-oncologist thought it would be a perfect candidate for CyberKnife surgery because of its size and inoperable placement. Well, again, the insurance is claiming this isn't necessary and does not want to help out with the costs of this treatment because it is not "in network." My mom had five treatments with CyberKnife for her brain mets and we're hoping it took hold and will help shrink the tumor. However, because of the steroid she was put on, dexamethasone (aka Devil Dex to some cancer patients), she started experiencing more adverse side effects that have landed her just this week in the hospital four different times for steroid-induced psychosis. Each 911 call, each ambulance ride costs a ton of money and we really cannot afford this with the insurance denying us every step of the way.

The hospitals refuse to keep her long because in her psychotic episodes she is unwilling to be admitted for psychological help. My dad and I are helpless. We cannot control her episodes and we end up calling 911 because it is the only way to get her some help even for a day. We attempted trying to get her admitted by driving her ourselves, but they will not take her without her consent, not even for an eval. She also needs to go to University of Chicago for a bronchoscopy/marker placement for her lymph node, but right now we are at a loss because her mental state is making it incredibly hard to get her to comply with doctors. She needs another five treatments of CyberKnife to her chest area to knock out that lymph node and maybe even a course of chemo to make sure there isn't any cancer hiding.

Our bills are piling up, but that doesn't stop my father and I from seeking the best treatment for my mom. I love her so much and I know she would go to the end of the earth for me to help me in the same way we are trying to help her right now. I know right now she doesn't understand exactly what is happening, why we keep trying to get her psychological help, why the steroid/tumor is doing this to her, but we keep each other strong and will see this through. However, financially this is breaking us. I absolutely hate begging but I will do that for my mom. Anything, any little bit would help the hell my family is going through right now. Thank you so much and please know I completely appreciate everything you guys do for me on a daily basis (my online friends, the people who make me smile at the worst of times).

Thank you.
