Prosthetic Eye For My Son
$1,610 of $25,000 goal
Update: Surgery moved up to December 17th, 2014 due to worsening of disease. Michael Macias will have his right eye removed. You see michael has Retinopathy of Prematurity and in 2011 his disease worsened to neovascular glaucoma. This disease has caused his eye to grow abnormal blood vessels and on a weekly basis those vessels burst and cause severe eye pain. Recently he had eye surgery at the Duke eye center to have a medication put in his eye to kill off some of those vessels, however, he has dead nerves that are misfiring and causing excruciating pain. His right eye is so sick that he finally said to me, " mom I just want to have no more pain and be happy", this was the night after his surgery and at 15, he made the biggest decision of his life. He said,"I want me eye removed so I won't have any pain anymore". Michael of course will never see. But this has been his life. A life of darkness and pain. Next month will be his biggest adventure ever and within 8 weeks he will get a prosthetic eye. It's very painful to watch your child go through all of this, but I can't wait for the day he has no more pain. Insurance pays pretty good for all his surgeries but they don't pay well for prosthetics. I need help raising money to be able to pay his 20% of what the insurance doesn't cover and to pay for his prosthetic. Please help our family cover the medical costs so that my son will no longer be in pain.
