Melvin Kunekune Pig's Surgery

Melvin is a rare 8-month old Kunekune pig who belongs to my friends, Marylee and Gabe Reaume.  Melvin accidentally injured himself, requiring ct scans and specialized surgery.  Now, Melvin is very worried about his human mom and dad, because he knows how difficult life has been for them lately.  He never intended to cause such a financial hardship for the people he loves so much.   

Sadly, Marylee and Gabe are accustomed to hardship, but they always stick together, and manage to work through them.  Unfortunately, life sometimes has a way of piling up on people. Recently this wonderful responsible young couple has struggled with major illnesses, surgeries and the extreme financial burdens that have been brought on by the massive medical expenses that their insurance did not cover. Through it all, the dream of owning their own farm and raising their beloved pigs, chickens, and goats has given them the hope and inspiration that they needed to rise above their difficulties and enjoy their life together.  



Then on March 16, Marylee and Gabe were brought down once again...when they came home to find sweet Melvin severely injured, with his teeth shattered and twisted around inside his torn and swollen mouth. Melvin's injuries were such that he was immediately referred to the North Carolina State University Animal Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove a tusk and broken teeth and to wire his broken jaw. In the coming weeks, Melvin will need additional tests before he undergoes a second surgery to remove the wire from his jaw.   



Just like it never entered their minds to euthanize Melvin - Marylee and Gabe would never ever ask for help from anyone.  So instead, Melvin and his friends are asking for them.
