Medical Marijuana Comprehensive

DISCLAIMER: If you want don’t want to read the full bio, skip to the last paragraph ; )

I’m extremely excited to be surrounded by so many opportunities to explore my passion for agriculture. I take advantage of every opportunity to learn more and become a better grower. I started growing any and everything I could get my hands on about 3 years ago. My first year, I took the seeds out of a lemon, peeled the protective skin off, stuck it in a paper pot with dirt and set it on a windowsill. It sprouted, but didn’t make it too far past that point. My second year, I decided to move to Atlanta, GA for the summer. I transferred my job, packed my plants AND took my 3-tier grow light with me on the road. That summer I grew... way too much to list here. This year, I grew even more and am going to have to find a food pantry donate to. Toward the end of my summer in Atlanta, I attended the B.U.G.S. (Black Urban Farmers and Gardeners) conference that was being held at Georgia State. I was in my element and it reassured me of my mission while at the same time connecting me to family that I didn’t know I had! *tear* :,) haha

Earlier this year, I earned a certificate of completion for participating in Ohio State University Extension’s 10-week Market Gardening course; I did this while pursuing my degree in fashion merchandising. On August 23rd, I will have completed my first internship as a community garden liaison for OSUE Cuyahoga County. I’ve visited and met with over 50 community gardens while being in contact with over 100. If you didn’t already know, there are over 200 community gardens here and Cleveland is a hub spot for urban ag.

I do have a business plan of my own, but since this is my passion, I don’t put pressure on myself to have it all figured out. I’ve noticed that as I grow and become more confident in who I am, so does my business. My business plan is starting look like a reflection of myself! I don’t want to take the easy road and miss out on valuable lessons. I am one of the few but powerful Black farmers/gardeners in my generation who plan on feeding our neighborhoods when our elders finally put the broad fork down! I am paving the way and striving to show face and representation for the kids who will one day follow suit in leading our communities’ efforts toward food sovereignty.

One plant I am fascinated with—purely out of my love for botany—is marijuana. The plant itself is beautiful and extremely powerful. I have the opportunity to take a 2-day comprehensive class on medical marijuana right here in Cleveland, Ohio at Cleveland’s School of Cannabis. For everyone who is always asking me whether I grow it, the answer is absolutely not! However, I would love to if I could do it legally. I have always been one to appreciate every living thing God’s given us.

I would wholeheartedly appreciate any contribution you’d be willing to give toward my fee for this class so that I can continue adding to my education : ).
