My Name is Chris Koenig and I have known Matt since we were in Jr. high. I set up this fund to help raise some money for Matt and his family to bridge the gap between insurance and real life. It is inspiring the amount of people who know Matt and his family and who have offered up financial assistance. Because I set up the campaign a little hastily the funds will come to me and then I will write and mail a check to Alyssa (Matt's Wife) . Below is a quick summary from her on what they are experiencing. Please feel free to share this with anyone who knows Matt and his family or any group who would want to help.
As some of you know, Matt Lester is in the hospital and is in critical condition. In late January 2019, Matt went to the local hospital with chest pains. As it turned out, Matt was diagnosed with the FLU, Pneumonia, Strep Infection and Sepsis. The Lester family had their lives turn upside down overnight and they need our help.
Matt continues to be in a medically induced coma because his organs are having to work too hard to fight the infections and he has also been transported to ICU at George Washington Hospital in Washington, D.C. This hospital is fantastic but it's also 40 miles from their home so Alyssa is commuting in D.C. traffic and away from her young boys much of the time.
The doctors expect his hospital stay to be significantly long, it could be months before he is released from the hospital. Once released, he will be transferred to a rehabilitation center until he is strong enough to be in his home. The doctors have told Alyssa that they estimate that it will be several months (maybe even a year) before Matt is able to return to work.
Alyssa is a stay at home mom to two young boys ages 3 and 5. Expenses are adding up very quickly and any help is appreciated. Matt's employer has short term disability but does not provide long term disability so their income will end soon. Please consider donating to support this wonderful family during this extremely difficult time!
Funds donated will help Alyssa maintain their home, autos, food, gas, every day expenses as well as hotel stays for when she needs to stay closer to Matt.
They have a very strong support network of help caring for Greyson and Jameson and would appreciate your thoughts and prayers for Matt's health, Alyssa's strength and some normalcy for their young sons as they are missing their dad very much.
